MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – (Friday, August 9, 2024) – Berkeley County is assessing damage from recent flooding caused by Tropical Depression Debby. Over the next few days, crews will be out surveying areas around the county to gauge the extent of damage.
Residents and businesses that sustained storm-related structural damage are urged to report it HERE or via the Citizen Call Line at 843-719-4800 and leave a detailed message. The Citizen Call Line is for non-emergency calls only, and callers will hear an automated response. These reports will determine appropriate federal and state funding for damage caused by the storm. Berkeley County remains at OPCON 1. The county is also under a Flash Flood Warning until 10:15 p.m. tonight, Friday, August 9. For weather updates, go HERE. Swift water task force teams conducted 40 rescues across the county overnight on Thursday and into the early morning hours on Friday. As floodwaters recede, please avoid driving on flooded roads and around barricades. Monitor road closures HERE.
Berkeley County Water and Sanitation crews are in Ladson repairing a water line in the Briddleford Ridge neighborhood between Stroberfield Branch and Limehouse Branch. Once water is restored, a boil water advisory will be issued. Tap water should be boiled vigorously for at least one full minute prior to using it for drinking or cooking. Residents will be notified once the advisory is lifted.
The Landfill will operate extended hours on Saturday, August 10 from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Convenience Centers will operate normal hours (7 a.m. – 7 p.m.) Until further notice, the Alligator Road and Shulerville Convenience Centers are CLOSED due to road conditions.
