MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – (Tuesday, January 21, 2025) – All Berkeley County Government offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 22. This includes the following facilities: Courthouse, Landfill, Convenience Centers, Library branches, Cypress Gardens and Berkeley Animal Center. Bond Court will still hold a session at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

All County Government Offices and facilities will close at 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, January 21. The Landfill will close at 3 p.m. There will also be no Bond Court session at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Where possible, County operations will continue virtually. A number of County Government services will remain available online through departmental webpages. Additionally, the public can access information specific to their County services through the Berkeley County portal.

CANCELLED MEETINGS: Both the Berkeley County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Berkeley County Library Board Trustee meetings scheduled for this evening have been cancelled. The BZA and Library Board will take up this month’s discussion items at next month’s meetings, both scheduled for February 18.

Berkeley County is currently under a Cold Weather Advisory until 10 a.m. on Thursday and a Winter Storm Warning starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday through noon on Wednesday. Berkeley County is expected to experience unusually long periods of cold weather, including wind chills of 15 to 20 degrees on both Tuesday and Wednesday night. Find the latest weather updates HERE.

The County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) transitioned to OPCON 2at noon on Tuesday, as Berkeley County Emergency Management officials continue to monitor local weather models. OPCON 2 reflects a potential emergency or disaster occurring. South Carolina is also under a State of Emergency ahead of possible winter weather.

Crews with Berkeley County Roads and Bridges, together with SCDOT, have prepared for inclement weather by applying salt to county-maintained bridges and around certain county facilities. Crews will continue brine treatment of local bridges throughout Tuesday or while areas remain dry. The county has also staged five grader vehicles around the county in the event plowing snow or clearing ice off roadways is necessary. Additionally, SCDOT has also pre-treated the mainline, ramps, and overpasses of I-26 with salt. Crews have also brined all overpasses, ramps, and bridges in Berkeley County and salted all primary routes.

CAROLINA WASTE SCHEDULE: Due to possible winter weather, Carolina Waste will operate on the following schedule this week. Also, all bulk and yard waste pickup are suspended this week and will resume its regular schedule on Monday, January 27. For questions, please call the Carolina Waste office at 843-576-1100.

  • Tuesday, January 21: The main office, Carolina landfill, and transfer station will close at 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, January 22: All operations, including the transfer station and landfill, will be closed.
  • Thursday, January 23: A delayed start is scheduled, weather depending.All routes will begin at 6 a.m. and operate on a one-day delay. Wednesday routes will be picked up Thursday and Thursday routes picked up Friday.
  • Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25: Friday routes will get picked up on Saturday. The transfer station and landfill will operate on a normal schedule both days.

    CITIZEN CALL LINE: In the event of a power or water outage due to winter weather, please call our Citizen Call Line at 843-719-4800 or call the specific utility provider below.The Citizen Call Line is for non-emergency calls only, and callers will hear an automated response. The automated line is available 24/7 and includes information for local utilities and other critical contacts. **For all emergencies, please call 911.**

    REPORTING DAMAGE: Any structural damage from winter weather sustained by a residence or business should be reported HERE or via the Citizen Call Line at 843-719-4800 and leave a detailed message.     WARMING CENTER: Goose Creek United Methodist Church, located at 142 Red Bank Road, will open as a warming center the evenings of Tuesday, January 21; Wednesday, January 22; Friday, January 24; and Saturday, January 25. It will NOT open on Thursday, January 23. Intake each night will be 7-10 p.m. Guests can stay 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and will have access to a cot with a pillow and linens. Dinner and breakfast will also be served.
