MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – (Friday, June 12, 2026) – Berkeley County is reminding residents to properly dispose of damaged, defective or recalled lithium-ion batteries to mitigate the risk of fire, explosion and thermal releases at the County landfill and convenience centers.
Due to these risks, lithium-ion batteries should not be placed in household trash or recycling containers.
To properly dispose of these materials, please contact the Berkeley County Solid Waste Department at 843-719-2383 or 843-719-2386 to coordinate a drop-off time at the Oakley Road Convenience Center, located at 606 Oakley Road in Moncks Corner.
Please note—Automotive or wet-cell batteries will not be accepted.
Berkeley County convenience centers are for Berkeley County residents only. Proof of residency is required.
Berkeley Electric Cooperative also serves as a drop-off site for lithium-ion batteries. See more information HERE.
All lithium-ion batteries collected by Berkeley County and Berkeley Electric will be sent to Redwood Materials located in Berkeley County. Batteries will be recycled for electric vehicle and clean energy use.
