The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office announces that the next class of The Citizen Police Academy is scheduled for September 29 through October 27, 2014.

We are seeking out and inviting Berkeley County citizens who would like the opportunity to meet with deputies to learn about the daily operation of the Sheriff’s Office. Citizens who attend will be exposed to all facets of the office including Patrol, Investigations, Victim Services, Judicial Services, Warrants Division, Community Services, Specialized Units and the Detention Center. The attendees will also learn about budget and finance issues impacting the operation of the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Wayne Dewitt said “while the academy is designed to educate our citizens, we find that it also creates a closer bond between the deputies involved in the community and the citizens who attend.”

Dewitt added “this is not only ‘the’ Sheriff’s Office, this is ‘your’ Sheriff’s Office and we want everyone to be involved”.

Participants must be a citizen of Berkeley County, at least 18 years of age, who has not been convicted of a serious crime.

Classes will meet at 6:00 PM each Monday night beginning on September 29 for five weeks. Each session will be about two hours.
