Biography

Tommy Newell serves as the Vice Chairman of the Berkeley County Council and is the Chairman for the Public Utilities Committee. Newell was elected to County Council in 2014, and began his first term in January 2015. He was re-elected in 2018, and began his second term in January 2019.

Newell is a small business owner and serves on the board for Berkeley Charleston Dorchester Councils of Government (BCD COG).

He has served as the president of the Ladson Youth Organization since 2017 and has been a part of this organization since he was a kid. Newell was raised in Berkeley County, with family on Horseshoe Road.

Newell volunteers as a football coach at Stratford High School. He has three children who also live in Berkeley County.
