Message from Berkeley County Real Property Services: DON’T WAIT TO APPLY FOR THE 4% SPECIAL ASSESSMENT!
If you recently bought a new home or made changes to your deed (ex. death of an owner, added an owner, removed an owner), you need to apply for the 4% special assessment.
Failure to apply in a timely manner may cause your mortgage payment to increase.
You should receive an application from either your closing attorney or the Real Property Services Office when you buy a new home, or change your deed.
