While routine maintenance was being performed at the Berkeley County Detention Center, a product was used that caused a respiratory reaction in some inmates. As a precaution, all affected individuals are being evaluated at Trident Hospital and are expected to be released this afternoon.
Berkeley County officials will assess detention center service protocols to determine an alternate method of routine maintenance.
The safety, health and security of individuals incarcerated in County facilities is of utmost importance. The Berkeley County Detention Center employs full-time staff to provide inmates with on-site medical services 24-hours a day.
