MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – (Tuesday, December 23, 2025) – All lanes along the U.S. 176 Widening Project Phase 1 have reopened to traffic. The project consists of widening U.S. 176 from two lanes to four lanes from U.S. 17A to Nexton Parkway, with turn lanes and sidewalks on both sides. Resurfacing is planned after the new year for areas along U.S. 17A impacted by the project.

Mead & Hunt designed the widening project, and L. Dean Weaver Company is heading construction. Infrastructure, Consulting & Engineering (ICE) is providing project management and inspection. This project is funded through the 2014 One Cent Sales Tax Referendum. Learn more about the One Cent Sales Tax Program HERE.

“The opening of all lanes in this region along with intersection improvements will provide much needed traffic relief along the corridor. Though U.S. 176 is a state maintained federal highway, all improvements were funded by the Berkeley County One Cent Sales Tax Program. A special thanks goes out to the voters and residents of Berkeley County for supporting the roads referendum so we can provide much needed traffic improvements throughout the County.”  Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb
