MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – (Monday, December 1, 2025) – Cole Shirley has been named the new Director of Berkeley County Emergency Management. Shirley brings extensive experience in public safety, emergency response, and crisis communication.

Shirley is a South Carolina Certified Emergency Manager who has been an asset in multiple Emergency Operations Center activations across the state, including here in Berkeley County. His background includes serving the community as a firefighter and nationally registered paramedic, as well as completing FEMA’s Advanced Public Information Officer certification, providing him with strong communication and coordination skills during critical incidents.

Shirley most recently served as the County’s Fire Service Coordinator. In his new role as Emergency Management Director, he will oversee the County’s emergency preparedness, response, and recovery operations, ensuring the safety and resilience of our communities.
