Berkeley County officials announced today the highly anticipated completion of the Highway 17A road expansion project. Construction commenced on a nine-mile stretch between Moncks Corner and Summerville back in 2008. It was one of the first road projects to begin construction thanks to funds committed from the 2008 one-cent sales tax referendum which was spearheaded by the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce.
Please join us Monday, May 19, 2014 to meet with Berkeley County local elected officials, residents, and business owners to discuss and commemorate this critical long-awaited change in infrastructure. Due to the poor condition of South Carolina’s roads and costs to its taxpayers, this is a leading accomplishment for Berkeley County. Residents and business owners will be present to discuss the impact of the construction and its completion.
Berkeley County Supervisor Dan Davis was on-site to greet crews four years ago when construction began. He will be present again to speak about the expansion details and the magnitude of the changes in infrastructure and the standard that has now been set for the future of our community. He states, “This is one of many steps we are taking to ensure the roads are safer and more reliable not only for us, but for our children and our children’s children.”
A ceremony to commemorate the completion of Highway 17A will be held Monday, May 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1555 South Live Oak Drive (Highway 17A), Moncks Corner, SC, near Black Tom Road and Highway 17A. Parking is available in the church parking lot.
