Advanced Cardiac Life Support

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Classes at Berkeley County Emergency Medical Services (BCEMS) are taught and tested according to American Heart Association guidelines. 90% of lecture material is presented by projection of Microsoft PowerPoint. You will be required to participate in hands-on practical demonstrations throughout the course, and successfully demonstrate competency on both a written and a practical exam. BCEMS ACLS classes are held as a two-day, 16 total class hour event, regardless of whether or not the participant has taken the course before. We here at BCEMS believe that Basic Life Support (BLS) is a vital part of performing effective ACLS. Therefore, every ACLS course conducted at Berkeley County EMS begins with an AHA BLS course. If you are a student in the ACLS course AND you are a BLS instructor, you will still be required to take and successfully complete the BLS written and practical.

Basic Trauma Life Support

American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) classes at Berkeley County Emergency Medical Services (BCEMS) are scheduled for the first day of any Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course. BLS courses are taught and tested according to AHA standards as a recertification course. Typically, the first 3 hours of our ACLS courses are scheduled as BLS training. Two BLS classes are always scheduled at Berkeley County EMS every February and July. They will be held 2 days in a row come to either day. You do NOT have to be enrolled in ACLS to attend BLS.
