The inaugural Tri-county Literary Celebration (TLC) and kick-off event for Berkeley Reads aims to recognize published authors residing in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties, foster interest in the arts, increase the number of avid Lowcountry readers, and connect writers and readers of all ages with published authors. Over 100 authors have been invited to meet readers at the TLC event in Dean Hall from 10 am – 1 pm on Saturday, February 7, 2015. The event is FREE to the public, and the published works of local authors will be available for purchase.

If the lure of authors and Cypress Gardens were not invitation enough, storytellers will be on hand to share their tales and puppeteers will ensure a fun experience for children of all ages. Lowcountry culinary specialties such as Lowcountry Boil and Chicken Bog will also be available for purchase.

The month’s long Berkeley Reads program will culminate in a Writers’ Workshop finale held at Hanahan High School on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Berkeley County Schools will participate in Berkeley Writes! (a writers contest) to be judged by Lowcountry authors; finalists will have a writing session with either Bret Lott, Nicole Seitz, or Christi Sanford that Saturday from 9 – 11 am. Adults from the community will be treated to a FREE Writers’ Workshop with Bret Lott and Nicole Seitz from 12 pm – 2 pm on the same day in the auditorium at Hanahan High School.

These events are sponsored by a host of community partners, including the Berkeley County Library System, the Berkeley County School District, the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce, Cypress Gardens, the Friends of the Berkeley County Library, and the Friends of Cypress Gardens.
